The RTS mobile app's UX design was informed by comprehensive research, including user surveys and interviews to identify commuter pain points like real-time tracking and fare payments, competitive analysis of leading transit apps, iterative wireframe testing for intuitive navigation, accessibility audits for inclusivity, and beta testing to refine GPS accuracy and notifications. This evidence-based approach resulted in a user-friendly app that streamlines trip planning, reduces wait times, and accommodates Rochester's diverse riders with accessible, efficient features.
The RTS app combines intuitive design with robust functionality, featuring real-time tracking, fare payment, and interactive maps in a clean interface. High-contrast colors and readable typography ensure accessibility, while push notifications and persistent menus streamline navigation. With screen-reader support and adjustable text, the blue-and-white themed app delivers a seamless commuting experience for all users.
The mobile app was conceived as a digital companion to Rochester’s transit system, transforming the stress of commuting into a seamless, user-controlled experience. Built on the philosophy that public transit should be accessible to all, the app merges practical functionality—like real-time bus tracking and mobile ticketing—with inclusive design, ensuring every rider, regardless of ability or tech literacy, can navigate the city with confidence. By embedding local insights (like weather-adjusted schedules) and prioritizing transparency (such as delay explanations), the app fosters trust and convenience, embodying RTS’s commitment to connecting Rochester’s communities through innovation.
